Our view / Independent information
Our habitat-first view
City pigeon keeping works best when enthusiasm is matched by a suitable place, a manageable flock and care that happens every day.
Start where the birds will live
Jollypigeonloftlv.buzz is an independent information website about urban loft design, aviary planning and responsible pigeon care. We organise guidance around the real constraints of city sites: limited footprints, shared boundaries, weather exposure, local requirements and the person who must carry water through the door each morning.
Our central idea is simple: housing, protection and daily observation belong in the same plan. A secure enclosure without suitable airflow is incomplete. A spacious-looking loft without clean water or accessible resting places is incomplete too.
Humane does not mean idealised
We do not romanticise overcrowding, neglected housing or breeding without a capacity plan. Sometimes the responsible outcome of a site assessment is a smaller flock, a redesigned project or the decision not to keep birds at that location.
What this site can and cannot do
Our pages explain design principles and useful checks. They are not engineered construction specifications, legal opinions, medical diagnoses or individual treatment plans. We do not inspect or certify readers' lofts, operate an emergency service or claim affiliation with the organisations we cite.
Photography illustrates habitat features, not proof that every aspect of a pictured installation is suitable. Diagrams are conceptual and are not to scale. Check every proposed detail against your own birds, site and local requirements.
How to use the sources
Prioritise current local rules and direct professional advice. Sources are starting points with different remits, not endorsements of this website. Useful organisations include the Association of Avian Veterinarians, British Veterinary Association, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, American Veterinary Medical Association and Universities Federation for Animal Welfare.
For broader welfare frameworks, consult the World Organisation for Animal Health. For bird-health and biosecurity information, consider the Animal and Plant Health Agency and your own national authority. Organisational guidance does not establish what is legally permitted at your address.
Corrections are welcome
If a page is unclear, a link has changed or a practical detail needs qualification, tell us the page name and the specific concern. Include a reliable source where possible. Please do not send sensitive personal records or delay veterinary care while waiting for a response.
